PHI International Freshmen Invitational Dinner 2010
by Monchi Goce, PHI '09

One thing that sets the Phi Kappa Mu from any other institution is Brotherhood. The last and arguably most important pillar of the Fraternity is forever emblazoned in the hearts of every Phi, from the Founding Fathers of 1933 to the youngest batch of 2009. The strength of 77 years of brotherhood of the Phi Kappa Mu has once again been shown in the recently concluded Phi International Freshman Invitational Dinner held at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Manila last July 6 2010.
The showcase of this exemplary brotherhood is primarily for the freshmen class of 2015 to get to know the people responsible for making the Phi Kappa Mu what it is today. Hosts Christopher Salamaed Constantino Φ09 and Jose Antonio Tan Paulino Φ09 made the night memorable with their exceptional hosting style. The night was opened by no less than Superior Exemplar Mikhail Lew Perez Ver Φ06 with strong words and advice for the freshmen. A buffet dinner was then served to the delight of the resident body, the alumni and the freshmen guests. The creative talent of Brother Scribe Rodolfo Uy Fernandez III Φ08B and his sibling Joseff Karl Uy Fernandez Φ09 was also seen that night, as their video masterpieces ran the whole event long. An astonishing number of alumni graced the event, and all 51 attendees were recognized personally by Venerable Preceptor Ardynne Martin Corcelles Mallari Φ08B. Among the distinguished alumni to attend the event was the newly appointed DOH Secretary Enrique Tangonan Ona, Jr. Φ57, and he gave a few words of thanks as he was awarded an honorary plaque by the Fraternity. Phi International President William Honorato Eclar Romero Φ77 gave a short message by video, and followed by a few words from Jose Jonas Dino del Rosario Φ86, the Phi Kappa Mu Alumni Association President. To end the night, Fraternity Adviser Gerardo Dizon Legaspi Φ83 gave a short closing speech on the Phi brotherhood.
The best testament of the flame of the brotherhood is the support of the alumni to the Fraternity. If it were not for them, the Fraternity would not have survived and endured trying times to reach where it is now. The alumni present to show their gratitude to the fraternity that night were Ramon Fabella Abarquez, Jr. Φ1948, His Excellency, the Honorable, Enrique Tangonan Ona, Jr. Φ1957, Jaime Jose Roque Hilao Φ1960, Hawthorne Ma.
