PHI Goes to Dagupan
by Topher Constantino, PHI '09

As early as 3:00 in the morning, Brods and Sisses gathered at the PagKalMa park in joyful anticipation of their annual Dagupan beach trip. The carpool, composed of 7 cars carrying 36 people was led by Brod Jayson Rosario Paragas (Φ ‘08B), a master of maps and roads. They took a quick stop to have lunch at the Dagupan-famous Matutina’s with Brods Generoso Doloso Torres (Φ ’72) and Juan Antonio Maximiano Regalado Escano (Φ ’92). Both are renowned physicians in the province through their service for the people as Urologist and Orthopedic Surgeon, respectively.
After the sumptuous luncheon amidst a festive atmosphere of nostalgic conversations and cheerful laughter, the Brods and Sisses headed to Sual, Pangasinan and settled down at Covelandia Du Labrador resort. It offered class A amenities which included a spacious upper veranda and karaoke room. Three dragon-shaped slides outside beckoned to the guests and thrill-seekers to try a swift and slippery entry to the resort’s pool. Brod Mark Willis Lim Malaki (Φ ‘08B) conquered the beasts with his massive cannonballs which created waves that resonated across the whole pool.
More outdoor-oriented Brods and Sisses enjoyed fun activities at the beach which included skimboarding on the smooth sands of the beach front, ultimate frisbee, and kite-flying. Others chose to swim and converse with each other as they drifted with the large, undulating waves, laughing as the surf swept them in different directions with every splash.
At around 6:00 pm, they headed off to Jam Sweet Jam and enjoyed their famous sizzling Bulalo Steak as that jovial night was shared with Brods Gene Torres and Maxie Escano. After that hearty meal, it was back to Covelandia where the night’s festivities were celebrated with a merry mix of singing, card games and free flowing drinks as the Fraternity and Sorority partied ‘till dawn.
The morning sun the next day greeted the Brods and Sisses as they spent a few more moments at the beach before heading off to another grand luncheon. Dagupeña was the final stop and the group enjoyed its famous sizzle bangus steak. This time, they were graced with the presence of Brod Zenaides Tactay Wi (Φ ’72) and his wife Dr. Jennifer Ann Mendoza Wi (Φ ’72), the legendary Superior Examplar couple of ’75 – ’76. They were also joined by Charito Torres, mother and wife of Phi Brods and a certified Phi Lover. As everyone parted ways, each felt the summer heat intensify as the warmth of Brotherhood reveled in their hearts. Truly in whatever lands we meet, the Phi Spirit lives on. Until the next!
