BRODS GATHER FOR PACQUIAO-CLOTTEY FIGHT
by Karl Fernandez, PHI '09
On the fine Sunday morning of March 14, brods of the Phi Kappa Mu gathered at Pacio’s Bar in Quezon City, owned by Brod Jonas del Rosario Φ86, to watch and enjoy the well-awaited match of Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey. Good food and beer were served, which was perfect for everybody’s viewing.
Pacquiao punished Clottey for 12 rounds by vicious combinations to the body. The lack of aggressiveness in Pacquiao’s contender made the match one-sided. Regardless, brods relished the fight as they tirelessly cheered for the fighting pride of the Philippines each time he landed a solid blow. The event would not have been possible without the support of brods Iggy Agbayani Φ86, Ben Asa Φ68, Jaime Jilao Φ60, and Gregg Labio Φ61, who paid for the satellite feed of the match as well as brod Jonas, who in turn, catered and organized the gathering.
The alumni present included pioneer immunologist-allergologist Benigno Agbayani Sr. Φ54, Saturnino Reyes Φ54, recently-appointed Chief of the UP-PGH Orthopedics Mario Geronilla Φ69B, UP-PGH Director Jose Gonzales Φ69B, UPCM Associate Dean Bunds Balgos Φ76, Ted Herbosa Φ79A, Owen Loh Φ84A, Iggy Agbayani Jr Φ86, Jonas del Rosario Φ86, Andro Fernandez Φ91, Eduard Alfanta Φ98, Enrico Banzuela Φ00, and Richmond Chang Φ00.
Fellowships during Pacquiao fights have become traditional fraternity affairs since the Pacquiao-Dela Hoya bout of December 2007. Indeed, there is no better way to enjoy these fights than with overflowing beer and a sumptuous breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning, in the company of Phi brods.
