PHI WELCOMES JUNIOR BRODS BATCH NINETAILS
by Karl Fernandez, PHI '09
On the night of October 29, 2009, nine medical students were welcomed by the Phi Kappa Mu into their brotherhood. Ninetails, the name of the batch, came from the infamous Cat O Nine Tails, a multi-tailed whipping device used to inflict physical pain. The incoming batch believes that like the whip, each has his own strengths and specialties but needs to function as one in order to execute their purpose.
Phi batch 2009 Ninetails is composed of: Ace Robert Alfabeto, a UP Visayas BS Public health graduate who is well-honed in music and the arts; the swift swimmer and rap-music aficionado Christopher Constantino, who took up BS Biochemistry in DLSU; the bold and loud UP Diliman BS Psychology graduate Jay Esquivel; the sports enthusiast UP Diliman BS Biology graduate Karl Fernandez; Monchi Goce, the youngest in the batch yet most creative from UP Diliman BS Molecular Biology and Biotechnology; the best in genetics graduate from UP Los Baños Mark Manzano; Pocholo Morales, a versatile and well-rounded student from the Intarmed program; the silent and talented dancer Jayson Panganiban, who finished BS Biology in UP Manila; and the authoritative batch leader Tonicci Paulino, who took up BS Public Health in UP Manila. This marks the beginning of a life-long venture of service for the fraternity for the new junior brods, all for Phi!
