Brod Robbie Φ90A Now Fr. Sian SJ

by Bud Omar, PHI '08B
On April 04, 2009, Brod Robbie Sian Φ90A, along with five other deacons of the Jesuit Society, was ordained priest at solemn ceremonies held at the Ateneo Manila University’s Church of the Gesu. Imus Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle served as ordaining prelate in rites held within the context of the Catholic mass. Shortly after, “the new priests celebrated their first Mass giving thanks to God and to those who have helped them along the way.”
A graduate of La Salle Bacolod High School and the BS Zoology program of the University of the Philippines Diliman, Brod Robbie entered UPCM class of 1994 and was initiated into the fraternity in 1990. Even when he already felt the first tugs of his calling during his high school years, he only started seriously contemplating priesthood after finishing medicine and during his residency training in pediatrics. In 1996, he entered a yearlong discernment program at the Jesuits’ Arvisu House. Barely three months into the program, he decided to enter the Society of Jesus and began his novitiate in 1997. In his regency, he spent 2 years teaching in Xavier High School, San Juan and 1 year in the Jesuit Service in Cambodia, where his medical training came in handy in his role as school infirmarian at a Jesuit-run vocational school for the physically-handicapped poor. In September 13, 2008, he was ordained deacon, the deaconate being a preparatory stage to the presbyterate.
The fraternity takes pride in a loyal son having found his true calling and having dedicated himself to a veritable ‘life of service.’ The fraternity wishes all the best – and only the best – for its father-brod!
