OS 203 Anatomy Lab Review 2011
As is yearly tradition, the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity and Phi Lambda Delta Sorority held anatomy reviews to lend a hand to first year students of the UPCM. In preparation for the upcoming OS 203 dissection exam, the fraternity and sorority conducted a Cadaver-Hop review, as the first in a series of reviews to supplement the LU3 experience. Having all been through first year, every PHI understands the challenges in getting used to the bulk of information demanded by the study of Medicine. Brods and Sisses from all batches took time to share their knowledge with the freshmen. Excellence is one of the pillars of both the Fraternity and Sorority, and what better way to exemplify this than by being teaching doctors.
The review consisted of different stations, each covering a specific body part. Brods and Sisses provided a quick run through of the must-knows of each body part, pointing out the more important details and sharing shortcuts and mnemonics to make memorizing easier. The freshmen were provided with a more hands-on experience having an anatomy review with actual cadavers as the visual aids. Aside from the cadaver station themselves, there were separate stations handling the bones and X-ray plates. Also, to brush up on theoreticals, there were physiology sections, explaining the basic physiologic processes behind the parts to enhance learning and provide some clinical correlation.
Overall the entire review was a learning experience both ways; in the preparation of review materials and the actual lectures. In the same way the freshmen were reviewed for their immediate exam, the brods and sisses were able to run through the basics of Anatomy and Physiology and were given a new perspective by being the teachers this time. We would like to thank UPCM Class 2016 for the support, and to those who helped in the organization and implementation of this review. Congratulations on another successful event! All for PHI!
