Continuing Medical Education Series

The Phi Kappa Mu is committed to academic excellence and life-long learning. In this regard, the Continuing Medical Education Series was conceived in 2007. In a series of lectures aimed to highlight present trends in clinical medicine, exemplary brothers who are authorities in their respective fields volunteered to share their expertise by conducting lectures for consultants, fellows, interns and medical students from various hospitals and medical schools.
The first lecture was held at the March 5, 2008 at the BSLR-West and featured a conference on Gastroesophageal Reflux. Dr. Venancio I. Gloria served as moderator while Dr. Jubert P. Benedicto spoke on the Non-cardiac Causes of Chest Pain; Dr. Felix M. Zano on the Pathophysiology of Gastroesophageal Reflux; and Dr. Zenaides T. Wi on Chronic Cough.
The second lecture was held during the diamond anniversary and featured lecturette and case discussions on Infectious Diseases. Dr. Abundio A. Balgos lectured on Pneumonia while Dr. Dennis Serrano lectured on Urinary Tract Infections. The attendants then participated in an open forum after.
The Phi Kappa Mu, through the Continuing Medical Education Series, hoped to “promote excellence in the academic and professional practice of medicine through mentorship, collegiality and reasonable assistance” as written in its vision-mission.
